Inguinal and umbilical hernias may occur during pregnancy. These hernias may be pre-existing to pregnancy.
What to do?
during pregnancy you have to take great care of the hernias as well as pregnancy. hernias tend to obstruct or strangulate , so during pregnancy you will have to take enough care to avoid complications of hernia in body.
Care to be taken
- Avoid weight lifting of any kind above 3 kilos.
- Avoid straining for stools and urine.
- Avoid coughing, excess laughing, sneezing.etc.
- Have a constant vigilance over the sites of hernia that you may have.
Planning surgery
surgery for hernias in pregnancy should be planned according to type of delivery.
For women having normal delivery:- surgery for hernia should be planned after 3 months of delivery
For women having a Caesarean section delivery: surgery should be planned after 4 months of delivery.
Detail consultation in unison with surgeon and your gynecologist is necessary.
