Endoscopy

Endscopy is the modality of investigating and treating the diseases of hollow organs in abdomen.It is very beneficial these days to diagnose many difficult diseases and treat them accordingly . Endoscopy has made it possible to safely treat any hollow organ disease without surgery.

The effective endoscopy will guide surgeon to specify the correct diagnosis and arive upon a final verdict.

Endoscope has following parts:
1. Flexible rubber tube
( Hollow)
2. Light source
3. Camera
4. Video recording equipment

Endoscopy is done for following purposes:

1.Examination of esophagus (food pipe)
2.Examination of Stomach
3. Examination of Intestines
4.Examination of Large Intestine.
5.Examination of Anus

Endoscopy is recommended for following diseases or symptoms:

1. Hyperacidity
2. Reflux disease
3.Vomiting
4. Nausea
5. Indigestion ( Dyspepsia)
6.Chest pain
7.Chest Discomfort
8.Preprandial pain in abdomen
9.Post Prandial pain in abdomen
10.Painful defaecation
11. Bleeding from anus
12. obstruction in anus

Procedure

Before endoscopy of stomach and intestines
( GASTROSCOPY )
Do this:
1. Complete fasting for 3 hours before test.

You will be taken to procedure room.

Sugeon will give you a colorless , tasteless anesthetising liquid to drink.
He will spray your mouth with anesthetic spray ( name withheld to avoid misuse ). This liquid and spray will numb your senses of mouth, throat.

Then after 2-3 minutes the surgeon will put the flexible rubber tube in your mouth and tell you to swallow it.( As shown in photo just beside)

As you are anesthetised , you will not have pain and any discomfort.

You are awake all the time of procedure.

The surgeon will then look inside the food tube, stomach, intestines with the camera. He will also show it to you on a monitor ( preinstalled )

This takes only five minutes.

After the procedure is over you can take food and liquids after 1 hour.
